Lead Automation Engineer

Location: Nailsea, Somerset (Hybrid – onsite preferred)
Rate: Up to £65 per hour
Contract: Inside IR35 - 12 months approx with opportunities for longer term
Hours: 37.5 per week
Travel: International travel approx. 10%

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Lead Engineer specialising in Embedded Software / Automation to join a global engineering organisation delivering advanced control system solutions.

This is a key technical leadership role responsible for driving engineering delivery across complex projects within a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead development and delivery of control systems and embedded software solutions

• Produce and review FDS, Software Requirements Specifications, Design Documentation and Test Procedures

• Provide technical input into project planning and resource allocation

• Lead system testing activities and ensure compliance with engineering standards

• Support interface management and cross-project standardisation

• Contribute to audits, quality reviews and project close-out activities

Requirements:

• Degree qualified in Engineering, Science or related discipline (or equivalent experience)

• 5+ years’ automation / embedded software experience

• Strong PLC and HMI expertise (Twincat Soft PLC and Ignition SCADA desirable)

• Solid understanding of software development lifecycles and engineering best practice

• Experience delivering small to mid-scale technical projects

• Strong communication and documentation skills

• Ability to travel internationally as required
